Create project template

Once you have completed a project, you can save your planning by creating a project template based on that project. Instead of copying and paste, which will mean you will have to update the template (reset all dates, uncheck done actions, etc), you can just use the Create Template functionality from the project node.

The following reset is done in the created template:

  • all dates are cleared except the Created Date, which is set to the current date
  • all projects and actions are set to not done
  • the status of all actions are set to Inactive. Notes are kept

The created template is added in the Templates tab project tree. Next time you have a similar project, you can just copy and paste the template to the current projects tab. Then you can set the action dates, delegate actions, update the notes applicable to the new project.

Share project template

You can also share project templates with other ThinkingRock users, within your team or with the ThinkingRock community under this page.

Under the project (or sub-project node), use Export Template transaction. This functionality exports the selected project or sub-project into a separate file with the extension .trpt. This is the file the other users can import using the Import Project Template function.

To share with the TR community, send it to us by email. Let us know if you agree to have your name or company as the author.

The Import Project Template function is called under the File Menu, Import Option.

You need to select a project template file (.trpt extension). The project template will be added at the bottom of your project template tree.

The following applies when you import a project template:

  • If the contexts, topics and criteria values used in the project template do not exist in your data file, the default values for these fields are used: 'None' for topics and contexts, blank for criteria. So if you want to share project templates within a team, make sure every user has the same set of values for these fields.
  • The creation date for the project, sub-projects and actions is set to the date you are importing the template.
  • Any other dates are set to null.
