TOPIC: sync without wifi?

sync without wifi? 14 years 11 months ago #2573

Hello,
I'd like to know if it's possible to sync TR with Iphone without Wifi. I don't use wifi anymore because of the waves, and would like to find another way to sync. I've uploaded the application on my Iphone but cannot sync datas.
Thank you

Hi,

I'm afraid the answer is 95% no at the moment.

There are a number of reasons why but the main one is that Apple didn't give us many options. The situation is improving slowly, but developers still don't have access to the usb cable.

We're certainly looking into other options such as using a drop box account.

The only other thing is that you could use the data connection on your iphone (assuming your on an iphone rather than a touch/iPad)
To achieve this you'd need to do two things.
1. Discover your current public IP address
2. Open a port in your router/firewall and map it to your desktops internal IP address.

You should then be able to do the sync using your dataplan rather than wifi.

Cheers

Hi !

Is it possible to describe in more detail how syncing over a datanetwork could be done ?

I am a longtime fan and user of ThinkingRock, and while I now I have an iPhone 4, I don't have Wifi in my workplace (and my desktop computer is behind a company firewall) ...

Are there any cloud-based solutions in the making ? (something along the lines that e.g. Evernote or Producteev offer)

Best regards,

Guzz

Hi Guzz,

Unfortunately you're stuck in this case. You'd need to either add a wifi router inside the network or map a port through the firewall. I can imagine that the company wouldn't be keen on either option.

We do have plans to support syncing via dropbox. We've made a good start but the reality is this won't be ready until after xmas.

Hi,

thank you for your reply.

Since I've been using TR for a few years now and knowing that a solution is in the works, I can wait some time (hopefully not too long) to have a sync option through Dropbox.

Best regards,

Guzz
