iPhone app suggestions

TOPIC: Have never been successful syncing

Have never been successful syncing 14 years 8 months ago #2858

I have never been able to successfully sync. I recently reloaded 2.0 on the iPhone and it initially synced properly. Subsequent syncs have left the actions all blank.

Other programs such as Bento and SplashID sync great over my wifi.

Hi Thomas,

Sorry to hear that, but there's probably a simple fix.

The first thing to check, and I realise this is absurdly simple, is that you're entering the IP address shown on the desktop dialog into the iphone. ie. if the desktop is showing 10.0.1.7 (which sounds right, btw) then that is what you enter on the iphone's sync screen. Same goes for the port.

Depending on how your network is set up the address of your computer can change between sessions, so it's important to check the number currently show.

If that doesn't help, please check the troubleshooting guide on the wiki here http://www.trgtd.com.au/wiki/doku.php?id=wiki:user:section8&s[]=sync

If you're still having trouble, it would be useful to know the ip address, subnet mask and router address shown on the iphone network connection.

Cheers

Thanks for the quick response!

I have confirmed the IP numbers match--as I have always done. It looks like the iPone app is loading something as the bars for contexts, topics, and actions fill....

I created a Thought on the iPhone app and it did transfer to the desktop. After the sync, the iPhone app was blank... Seems to be one-way....

I attached a picture of the iPhone network...

Below are my desktop network settings:

Thanks

ok, well if you're entering 10.0.1.7 on the iphone screen then all of that seems perfectly correct.

Two things to check.
Are you running the firewall that comes with osX? Its in system preferences|security|firewall.

We've also had reports of a bug with iphones that sounds similar to your problem. It doesn't seem to occur with the ipod touch or the ipad so our working theory is that its something to do with having multiple networks (the wifi AND the 3g data network). We're not having much luck reproducing it ourselves, however.

Is the app crashing partway through the sync process (i.e. dropping back to the home screen)?

Can you do another sync (be mindful that you might loose any thoughts entered) and see what the TR log file says? You can view it via the menu "View|IDE log" in the thinking rock desktop.

I'm interested in messages about "SyncManager". if you're worried about exposing personal info, you can email it to the priority support email, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

I am running the firewall that comes with OSX.

The iPhone app does not crash. It stops on the screen attached. I can select the arrow in the top left to get back to the app.

I have emailed the IDE log separately with the subject "Re:Have never been successful syncing".

thanks for your help.
