I've been using TR for quite some time now and I really like they way most things are done. One thing I never managed to get to work really was the reference items. While I do know how to create a reference item, I never got how it is meant to be used. There is not tagging system, no organisation - as far as I can tell - you can't add any other media than text. I serious don't get how this was meant to be used. Could anyone give me a pointer in the right direction. Or maybe another tool that would allow some more organised form of keeping reference items?

Thanks in advance
Icey

You can categorise them by using topic.

You can enter web links or file links in the notes.

We will improve it soon. Suggestions are welcome. One thing on our list is the ability to attach reference items to a project.

now, that would really help. If you do this, it would be great if you can mark the reference item as done, for if it belongs to the project, you'd typically want to get rid of it, once the project is done.

What might be a nice feature, would be to allow rtf or wiki-style editing in the reference item note.

Also if doable, having tags to a reference item would be nice. For me, the topics are more static than tags, that's why it is not quite the same.

What I have done and have been doing successfully is capture all of my reference items in another database (in this case, a Lotus Notes database) that allows me to tag and organize all of my reference material.

The fields are rich text and allow me to format in any style and color I choose. In addition, I also attach documents and other files to the database entry for each search and recovery.

It would be wonderful if the future Reference Items was something like this in Thinking Rock. It would allow me to keep everything in the same spot. As it is now, I have double redundancies in some places. However, if the reference value is implemented and we can start to "point to" other actions and references within Thinking Rock (as we would a file or web page), I believe that will go a long way in to making Thinking Rock a more complete and closed system.
