I've done a trial of making the source work as an ipad app.
The result was a bit mixed. A lot of the screens didn't make sensible use of the real-estate. As you suggested, some of the screens could be modified to work a lot better with the expanded resolution.
We've done some work on the next version (being tested now) so that it behaves well in both orientations. This is also a requirement for the i-pad.
I think we'll revisit the i-pad version soon. The first version will probably be just an expanded version of the same screens and then we'll gradually update them to work well with the i-pad.
We're a while off doing shared development at this point. We'll discuss it internally when everyone is back from holiday though.
Getting some help with testing would be more practical.
